The Dissolving Landscape

I have recently returned from spending three weeks in Svalbard, participating in The Arctic Circle Residency, shooting altered film for my project The Dissolving Landscape. The film has been soaked in various acidic solutions to degrade it, speaking to the impending effects of global warming, as well as the changing medium of photography. Dubious Cosmology - MFA Thesis Exhibition

If you are in Toronto this month, please come check out my thesis exhibition at Gallery 1313! It is the culmination of my time at York University as an MFA student in Visual Art.

Ella Morton: Dubious Cosmology – York University MFA Thesis Exhibition

Gallery 1313
Opening reception: Thursday, April 16th, 2015. 6:30-10:00pm
Exhibition runs April 15-26, 2015

1313 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON, M6K 1L6
Gallery hours: Wednesday – Sunday, 1:00pm – 6:00pm

Dubious Cosmology is a proposition that the world is overflowing with mystery. It is a series of photographs and sculptures that celebrate the uncanny and the sublime. It is a collection of bizarre renditions of other universes. It is an exploration of fringe beliefs and why they are important. It is an inquiry into photography, the land and sky, UFOs and science fiction. It is a quest to show that there is a relationship between landscape and mystery, and why that relationship is of value to us. If we look at our surroundings – our landscapes – closely, it becomes undeniable that everything is extraordinary, inexplicable, wonderful, and that there is so much more to be uncovered.
